GILBERTO S. ROSA Y RUBEN BLADES MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND!

UNA SOLA SALSA TOUR!!!

Dates available for our area May 04-8, 2011

RUBÉN BLADES AND GILBERTO SANTA ROSA: TOGETHER ON TOUR FOR THE FIRST TIME!
Rubén Blades and Gilberto Santa Rosa, "El Poeta y el Caballero de la Salsa" respectively, have announced they will go on tour together in the United States at the beginning of 2011, in a show aptly titled "Una Sola Salsa", in which they will sing their greatest hits.

The tour will take these Two Salsa Superstars all over North America, to cities like New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Juan. According to Blades its an "unusual opportunity to share a stage with a musician who is beloved by everyone and is also a dear, personal friend [Gilberto Santa Rosa]". Both artists agree that this is an "opportunity to continue promoting the concept of Salsa music and ensuring that it wont be forgotten, pushed aside or replaced by other genres."

At this point the show is in its pre-production stage, which includes booking dates and setting up photo shoots with the stars. "We have high expectations for "Una Sola Salsa" since its a high wattage show with these two mega-stars weve always dreamt of seeing on-stage together."
This year Blades and Santa Rosa performed a duet together titled "Me Cambiaron las Preguntas", which appears in Santa Rosas new album, titled "Irrepetible". The song marks a highlight for Gilberto in his music career, since its the first song he records which focuses mainly on a social issue. According to Gilberto himself, its "unrepeatable because when you try to repeat a formula, it never turns out like you expected it to."

Blades stated that the tour will be an "opportunity to thank the fans that never abandoned the genre for their support and creating a reason to physically reunite in celebration of this type of music." He added that it would be a great time to "present the style to a new generation who hasnt been exposed to Salsa music and that will surely become great supporters of this Caribbean expression."

Houston Salsa Congress

I know I'm late with this but, I have to say this was the best Houston Salsa Congress to date. I was there Friday & Saturday only. Base on those two days it was a blast. Congrats to everyone involved & thank you for letting me be part of it as a spectator, performer & instructor. Until next year.

Why Is So Important To Go Down A Level?

Some students come from other schools & expect it's the same. I always recommend to drop a level. Why, you may ask? From my experience the following tends to happen...
  1. Maybe most moves weren't covered during the previous level @ the other school.
  2. To adjust to another instructors: a) style of teaching; b) dancing terms; c) syllabus.
So, if you plan to try another instructor or school try dropping a level. You might get more than what you expected.

Just a suggestion.

What Is Covered In Each Salsa Class? Good Question...

Salsa 1: Beginners
1st week: You learn 3 steps: Traditional, Basic Step & Basic (Right) Turn. Just focusing on footwork.

2nd week: You learn 2 more steps: CBL (Crossbody Lead) & Counter Clockwise Turn. Once again, focusing on footwork.

3rd week: We work how to lead the 5 steps that you learn the last 2 weeks.

4th week: Drills & evaluation to see if you are ready for Salsa 2: Basic / Intermediate.

Also, you will learn a Copa & Copa Crossover (sometimes a Salsa Walk).

SalsaEddy focus on the guys on three things...
1) Their timing. Because it goes hand in hand with 2) his lead. Base on that it builds confidence in 3) memorizing their moves or combo.

SalsaEddy focus on the ladies on three things too...
1) Following. By following they will be able to focus on they leads 2) timing. By understanding the leads flow then, the lady can relax & play with their 3) styling. In which, SalsaEddy will incorporate but, the ladies choice to learn it or not.

After four weeks you will be evaluated if you confidently know exactly what you need to do as a lead or as a follower. That's the key to become a good dancer. Also, know the foundation that consist of 95% of Salsa dancing from the waist down.

Knowing that you move on to Salsa 3: Intermediate / Advance.
